At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
Modern KWPN horses can be sensitive and powerful, bred for professionals. Joint and soundness checks matter, and WFFS carrier status matters for breeding.
Common questions
What genetic tests should a Dutch Warmblood have?
Ask for a WFFS carrier result. A pre-purchase exam with radiographs checks for OCD, which KWPN also screens stallions for. Include a back and neck check.
What are the KWPN types?
Jumper, dressage, harness (Tuigpaard) and Gelders types, each bred for a different job. Buy the type that matches your sport.
Is a Dutch Warmblood good for an amateur?
Many are, especially older, schooled horses. Some modern lines are very powerful and sensitive, so ride before you buy.
