The tradeoffs, honestly
Bare skin needs regular bathing, sun protection and warmth. The breed is rare outside Russia and Europe, and its long-term health data is limited.
Common questions
Is a Donskoy the same as a Sphynx?
No. The Donskoy’s hairlessness comes from a dominant gene, the Sphynx’s from a recessive one. Some Donskoys are born with a coat that thins or falls out over their first two years.
What health checks should the parents have?
Ask for heart screening on the parents and a full vet exam of the kitten, including skin and teeth. Ask how the breeder manages coat type, since fully hairless lines can have more skin trouble.
Is a Donskoy hypoallergenic?
No. The main cat allergen is made in skin and saliva, so hairless cats still produce it. Meet the breed first if you have allergies.
