Is a Dogo Argentino a good first dog?
No. Dogos are loyal and loving with family but powerful, prey-driven and often intolerant of other dogs. They need an owner experienced with strong breeds and lifelong training and management.
What health problems do Dogos have, and what should be tested?
Congenital deafness is the main concern, along with hip dysplasia, skin allergies and sunburn. Ask for a BAER hearing test on both parents and the puppy, and OFA hips on both parents.
Are Dogos legal everywhere?
No. The breed is banned or restricted in several countries and some cities, and many landlords and insurers exclude it. Check local rules and your lease before you commit.
