Blue
Degu · 1 live listings
Blue degus have a soft slate-gray coat in place of the wild brown, from a recessive color gene. It is a color only, so a blue needs the same group, sugar-free diet, dust baths and chew-proof metal cage as any degu.

The tradeoffs, honestly
Blue is less common than agouti, so lines can be smaller. Care, the diabetes risk and the five-to-eight-year commitment match any degu.
Common questions
Is a blue degu different to care for?
No. Color does not change diet, housing or temperament. Ask about the line's health history, since smaller color lines can be more closely related.
What health checks should a degu have?
Degus are prone to diabetes, so ask what the line is fed and avoid any animal raised on fruit, treats or molassed mixes. Check for bright orange, even front teeth, clear eyes and a whole tail, and ask for vet-confirmed sex and a litter record.
Are degus legal where I live?
Check state and city law first, because rules vary. Degus are reportedly prohibited in California, Hawaii, Georgia, Alaska and Utah, and some local rules differ from state rules.
