The Colombian gold tegu is a smaller, tropical tegu from northern South America, gold and black with a narrower head. It is often a wild-caught import and is known for being more nervous and defensive than Argentine tegus.

Is it legal where I live?
Florida added tegus to its prohibited list in 2021, and Hawaii bars most non-native reptiles. Tegus are CITES Appendix II, so an import needs CITES paperwork. Check your state and city rules first.
Captive-bred or imported?
Most are wild-caught imports. Prefer captive-bred with a hatch record; for an import, ask for a vet exam and clear fecal, and check for mites and a full tail base.
Will it tame like an Argentine?
Usually less. Some settle with patient work, but many stay flighty. Choose an Argentine if handling matters most.
