Farm-raised imports can arrive stressed and carrying parasites. Adults need the same room-sized setup as any green iguana.

Common questions

Is it legal where I live?

Florida added green iguanas, every colour morph included, to its prohibited list in 2021, and Hawaii bars them along with most non-native reptiles. They are CITES Appendix II. Check your state and city rules first.

Captive-bred or farm-raised import?

Many are farm-raised imports. Prefer captive-bred with a hatch record; for an import, ask for a clear fecal and a vet exam, and check for mites, sunken eyes and soft jaws.

Is it a different species?

No. It is a regional form of the green iguana, kept the same way.
