Carpet chameleon
Chameleon · 0 live listings
The carpet chameleon is a small Madagascar species, with females showing some of the brightest patterning of any chameleon. It is short-lived compared with a veiled or panther and is less often captive-bred, so sourcing matters.
At a glance
The tradeoffs, honestly
A short natural lifespan means a carpet chameleon is a few-year commitment at most. Imported animals often arrive stressed and carrying parasites, which shortens that further.
Common questions
Captive-bred or imported?
Look for a captive-bred animal with a hatch record. Imports are common and often arrive dehydrated and with parasites; ask for a clear fecal and watch for sunken eyes or a weak grip.
Why is the lifespan so short?
Carpet chameleons are a small, fast-maturing species, and females in particular live only a few years. Buying young and captive-bred gives you the most time.
Is it legal where I live?
Chameleons are CITES Appendix II, so an imported animal needs CITES paperwork, and Hawaii bars most non-native reptiles. Check your state and city rules first.
Ask the seller for these. Documents on Everybarn are on file for your own checks; we don't check them with the issuer.
