Bred in the Border country between England and Scotland to run with foxhounds and bolt foxes from their dens, the Border Terrier is tough, even-tempered and friendly. It is one of the more easygoing terriers, but it still likes to chase and dig.

What health problems do Border Terriers have, and what should be tested?
A generally healthy breed. Hip dysplasia, heart disease, eye disease, canine epileptoid cramping syndrome and shaking puppy syndrome occur. Ask for OFA hips, a cardiac exam, a recent eye exam and an SLEM DNA result on both parents.
Are Border Terriers good with cats?
If raised with them, often yes. Outdoors they chase anything that runs, and small pets such as rodents are at risk.
