Beige

Beige is a dominant chinchilla mutation with a tan coat, white belly and pink or red eyes; one copy gives a beige and two give a paler homo-beige. It is a hardy color, and care is the same as any chinchilla.

The tradeoffs, honestly
The same long commitment, heat risk and dental watch as any chinchilla. Beige is a color choice, not a different care plan.
Common questions
What is a homo-beige?
A chinchilla with two copies of the beige gene. It is paler, almost cream, and passes beige to every baby. Unlike white or velvet, doubling beige is not lethal.
What health checks should I ask for?
Ask for a vet exam that covers the teeth and jaw, since malocclusion is often inherited, and whether any relatives had tooth problems. A litter record or MCBA pedigree, vet-confirmed sex and a steady weight record are worth asking for too.
How warm is too warm?
Chinchillas have very dense fur and cannot shed heat. Keep the room cool, ideally below 75°F, and treat anything near 80°F as dangerous. Plan air conditioning for summer before you bring one home.
