Argente
Gerbil · 0 live listings
Argente, or golden argente, is a warm orange gerbil with a white belly and red eyes, created by a pink-eyed dilution gene acting on the agouti coat. It is a color only, so it needs the same pair, tank and deep bedding as any gerbil.

The tradeoffs, honestly
Red-eyed gerbils tend to see less well, so they may startle more easily when approached from above. Otherwise care matches any gerbil.
Common questions
Do red-eyed gerbils need special care?
No special care, but approach from the side and speak before you reach in, since red-eyed animals generally have poorer eyesight.
What health checks should a gerbil have?
Ask whether the line has a history of seizures: many gerbils have stress-triggered epilepsy, and some lines are more prone. Check the tail is whole (never lift a gerbil by it, as the skin can slip off), and ask for vet-confirmed sex and a litter record.
Are gerbils legal everywhere?
No. Gerbils are prohibited in California and Hawaii because escaped animals could establish wild populations. Rules vary, so check state and city law before you buy.
Ask the seller for these. Documents on Everybarn are on file for your own checks; we don't check them with the issuer.
