Is an American Eskimo Dog a good first dog?
Often, yes. Eskies are smart, eager and affectionate. Give them daily exercise and training, and plan for shedding and barking.
What health problems do Eskies have, and what should be tested?
Hip dysplasia, luxating kneecaps, PRA, juvenile diabetes and Legg-Calve-Perthes disease occur. Ask for OFA hips, a patella check, a recent eye exam and a prcd-PRA DNA result on both parents.
What sizes do American Eskimo Dogs come in?
Toy, miniature and standard, measured by height. All three share the same temperament and coat.
