A British flushing spaniel bred to push woodcock and pheasant out of thick cover, the English Cocker is taller, leaner and more workmanlike than its American cousin. Merry, affectionate and keen to please, it wants daily exercise and a family close by.

What to weigh
Field-bred English Cockers have far more drive than show-bred ones and need real work. The feathered coat and long ears collect burrs and mud, and ear infections are common without regular cleaning.
