The detail
Eclectus parrots come from New Guinea, northeastern Australia and nearby islands, and are unusual in that males are bright green and females red and purple. They are calmer than many parrots but particular about diet and handling.

What to weigh
Eclectus do best on a high-fiber diet rich in fresh vegetables and fruit, which means daily prep. Some birds react badly to heavily supplemented foods. Females can be territorial around their cage.
