The detail
Developed by Eduard Korthals in the late 1800s as a close-working pointing and retrieving dog for foot hunters, the Griffon is cooperative, affectionate and quieter than many gun dogs. It still needs daily exercise and a family that includes it.

What to weigh
Griffons attach closely to their people and do poorly left alone for long days. They need real exercise, and the bearded face carries water, food and mud into the house.
