The detail

A Hungarian pointer and retriever bred to work close to the hunter, which is why it is famously attached to its people. Gentle, sensitive and athletic, it needs hard daily exercise and a lot of company, and does poorly left alone.

Temperament
Affectionate, sensitive, lively
Best fit
Active people home often
Trainability
4 out of 5 (Bright, needs gentle hands)
Energy
5 out of 5 (1–2 hrs running daily)
Grooming load
1 out of 5 (Quick weekly wipe)

What to weigh

Vizslas are velcro dogs: they want to be with you constantly and can develop separation anxiety. Add high energy and a thin coat that does not like cold, and they suit active people who are home a lot.
