Buyer question
Is a Sable good for beginners?
Usually not: our Animal Library rates the Sable 2 out of 5 for beginners (better with experience).

The detail
Sable is the most common ferret color: dark brown guard hairs over a cream undercoat, with a dark mask, legs and tail. Color does not change care, so an owner is choosing a ferret, with all the time and vet care that means.
- Best fit
- Experienced, home-a-lot owners
- Handling
- 4 out of 5 (Playful, kits may nip)
- Care load
- 4 out of 5 (Hours of daily play time)
What to weigh
Ferrets need hours out of the cage each day, a ferret-proofed room, and vet care for common diseases of middle age. They have a musky smell even when descented.
