The detail
Large Blacks come from southwest England and are the only all-black British pig. Their long, drooping ears cover their eyes, which makes them calm and easy to handle, and they are excellent pasture pigs.
- Temperament
- Very docile
- Best fit
- Pasture, woodlots
- Docility
- 5 out of 5 (Very docile)
- Hardiness
- 5 out of 5 (Hardy, sun tolerant)
What to weigh
Large Blacks grow slower than commercial pigs and run fat if overfed. They are still uncommon, so unrelated breeding stock takes some searching.
