The detail
The jungle carpet python comes from the rainforests of northeastern Queensland and is known for high-contrast black and yellow patterning. It is a medium-sized, arboreal python that can be nippy as a youngster and usually settles into a confident adult.

- Keepers ready for a python
- Handling
- 3 out of 5 (Nippy young, calms with age)

- 4 out of 5 (Tall, arboreal enclosure)

- 5 out of 5 (Strong feeder)
What to weigh
It needs a tall, secure enclosure with perches and a 20-plus-year commitment. Young jungles are often defensive and quick to strike, so patience comes first.
