The detail
The hyacinth is the largest flying parrot, a cobalt-blue macaw up to a meter long from central South America. It is gentle for its size but needs space, a high-fat nut diet and a beak-proof home, and it is protected under CITES Appendix I.
- Best fit
- Very experienced keepers
What to weigh
A hyacinth needs a lot of space, a constant supply of hard nuts, and toys it cannot destroy in minutes. It will likely outlive its first owner.
