The detail
The dark-eyed white, or DEW, is a white ferret with dark eyes rather than red, produced by the same white-marking genes as blazes and pandas. Those genes carry a real risk of deafness, so an owner should ask about hearing before buying.
- Best fit
- Owners ready for a deaf ferret
- Handling
- 4 out of 5 (Playful, kits may nip)
- Care load
- 4 out of 5 (Hours of daily play time)
What to weigh
A higher chance of partial or full deafness, which means more startle nips and training by sight and touch. Care is otherwise that of any ferret.
