The detail
The normal, or Carolina, corn snake is the wild-type rat snake of the southeastern United States, orange with red saddles. It is hardy, tolerant of handling and a reliable eater, which is why it is the most recommended first snake.
- Best fit
- First snake, families
- Handling
- 4 out of 5 (Tolerant, can be quick)
- Setup complexity
- 2 out of 5 (Simple, secure lid)
- Feeding ease
- 5 out of 5 (Reliable feeder)
What to weigh
Corn snakes are escape artists, so the enclosure lid must lock. They are more active than ball pythons, which is fun but means quicker handling.
