The detail
The normal boa is the wild-type form of a heavy-bodied constrictor from Central and South America. Captive-bred boas are usually calm and handle well, but they grow large and live for decades.

What to weigh
A boa needs a large, sturdy enclosure and strength to handle safely. Overfeeding causes obesity, and some are defensive when young.
