The detail

The normal bearded dragon is the wild-type form of an inland Australian lizard that has become one of the most popular reptile pets. It is calm, curious and easy to handle, but it needs strong UVB, heat and a large enclosure.

Best fit
First lizard, families
Handling
5 out of 5 (Calm, handles well)
Setup complexity
4 out of 5 (UVB, heat, large tank)
Feeding ease
3 out of 5 (Live insects plus greens)

What to weigh

Bearded dragons need a big enclosure, bright UVB and daily feeding of live insects and greens. Poor UVB causes metabolic bone disease.
