The detail
Pionus are medium, quiet-natured parrots from Central and South America, often suggested for people who want a parrot without the volume of an Amazon. They are calm and independent rather than cuddly.
What to weigh
A pionus is less demanding, but still a 25-to-40-year bird. They make a wheezing or snorting sound when stressed that new owners mistake for illness, and they are prone to weight gain.
