The detail
Amano shrimp are larger algae-eating shrimp from Japan and Taiwan, popularized by planted-tank pioneer Takashi Amano. They are hardy and tireless algae grazers, but they are rarely bred in home tanks.

- 4 out of 5 (Hardy)
- Origin
- Japan and Taiwan

What to weigh
Amano larvae need brackish water to develop, so colonies will not grow on their own. They are copper-sensitive.
