The detail

Suri llamas grow long fiber that hangs in tight, lustrous locks or cords, much like a suri alpaca. They are a rare type kept for fiber and show, and they need careful shearing, fleece care and good shelter in wet weather.

Hardiness
3 out of 5 (Needs shelter when wet)
Origin
Andes of South America
Best fit
Fiber and show breeders
Temperament
Calm, independent, alert

What to weigh

A locked fleece takes more care to keep clean and to shear, and it offers less cover in cold rain. Llamas must never live alone, and bottle-raised intact males can develop berserk male syndrome.
