The detail
The Quaker, or monk parakeet, is a small green parrot from temperate South America and the only parrot that builds large stick nests. They are chatty, confident and good talkers, but they are illegal or restricted in several US states.
- Origin
- Argentina and nearby South America
- Best fit
- Talk-loving owners, legal states
What to weigh
Because escaped Quakers established wild colonies, some US states, including California and Pennsylvania, ban them, and others require registration. They can be loud and cage-protective.
