The detail
Bred in Tibetan monasteries and villages as an indoor sentinel that barked at strangers, the Lhasa Apso is a small, long-coated dog with a confident, independent mind. Loyal to family and aloof with strangers, it is a watchdog in a lapdog body.

- Temperament

What to weigh
Lhasas bark at strangers and can be snappy if handled roughly, so they suit calm homes. A full coat needs daily brushing, and many owners keep a shorter puppy cut.
