The detail
A gaited Appalachian saddle horse bred for smooth, even four-beat travel over mountain terrain. It shares roots and many traits with the Rocky Mountain Horse, including a gentle temperament and all-day comfort.
- Origin
- Eastern Kentucky, US
- Best fit
- Trail, pleasure riders
- Upkeep
- 2 out of 5 (Hardy, easy keeper)
- Temperament
- Gentle, calm, willing
What to weigh
Keeping the gait smooth takes a rider and farrier who know gaited horses. Silver-colored horses carry the same eye risk as Rocky Mountains, and easy keepers gain weight fast.
