The detail

A livestock guardian bred to live with flocks in the Pyrenees mountains and fend off wolves, the Pyr thinks for itself and patrols at night. Calm and gentle with family, it is independent, barks at threats and often ignores recall.

Best fit
Farms, fenced rural homes
Temperament
Calm, patient, independent

What to weigh

Pyrs bark at night by instinct, wander if fences are weak and rarely come when called. They shed heavily and are not easy to train in the usual obedience sense.
