The detail

Wagyu are Japanese cattle bred for extreme marbling, and their beef sells into a premium market. They grow slowly and need long, careful feeding to reach that grade, so they suit patient producers with a sales plan.

Hardiness
3 out of 5 (Moderate)
Origin
Japan
Best fit
Premium direct-market beef
Upkeep
4 out of 5 (Long finishing period)
Temperament
Calm, gentle

What to weigh

Wagyu take far longer to finish than British breeds, and the premium only arrives with the right feeding and a buyer who pays for it. Pedigree claims need DNA proof.
