The detail

Beefmasters were developed in Texas in the 1930s from Brahman, Hereford and Shorthorn. They were selected on six traits: disposition, fertility, weight, conformation, hardiness and milk, which makes them a practical ranch cow.

Hardiness
5 out of 5 (Heat and drought)
Origin
Texas, US
Best fit
Southern ranches
Upkeep
2 out of 5 (Low-input)
Temperament
Selected for disposition

What to weigh

The Brahman share gives heat tolerance but can add some reactivity. They are less common in the North and in cold climates.
