The detail
Bred in Australia to drive cattle over long distances in heat, the Cattle Dog, or Heeler, is tough, tireless and fiercely loyal. It is a working dog first and needs a job, a lot of exercise and an owner who stays consistent.
What to weigh
Heelers nip at heels by instinct, are wary of strangers and often bond with one person. Without heavy daily work they become destructive or reactive, and they can be tough with other dogs.
