The detail
The only draft horse breed developed in the United States, from a cream mare in Iowa in the early 1900s. American Creams are gentle, willing and rare, listed as critically endangered by conservation groups.
What to weigh
A rare breed means few breeders, limited choice and careful attention to inbreeding. Draft size brings large feed, farrier and equipment needs, and pink skin sunburns.
