The detail
Trachyphyllia, or open brain coral, are free-living stony corals that sit on the sand in nature. They are colorful, fleshy and fairly easy, doing best in low to moderate light and gentle flow with regular feeding.
- Housing
- Reef tank, sand bed, low to moderate light
- Tank size
- 2 out of 5 (Small tanks work)
What to weigh
Trachyphyllia need a sand bed, not rock, and can be damaged by strong flow. Their tissue can tear on sharp rock.
