The detail
Bred in 19th-century England for dog fighting and later refined into a family companion, the Staffy is a compact, muscular dog with a big love of people. Affectionate, brave and playful, it needs exercise, training and careful management around other dogs.
What to weigh
Staffies can be intolerant of unfamiliar dogs and are very strong for their size. They chew and need daily exercise, and some landlords and insurers restrict bull breeds.
