The detail
Salt and pepper is the standard African pygmy hedgehog color: banded dark quills, a dark mask and dark eyes. It is the closest to wild-type, and like every color it is a nocturnal, solitary insectivore that needs steady warmth.
- Housing
- 4+ sq ft, kept 72–80°F
What to weigh
A hedgehog is awake at night, runs miles on a wheel, and needs steady warmth year-round. Handling takes patience, and some never fully relax.
