Bred by monks at the Great St Bernard Pass to find travelers lost in snow, the Saint Bernard is a massive, patient and friendly dog. It is famously gentle with children, but drool, size and short lifespan come with the package.
What to weigh
Saints drool, shed and struggle in heat, and their size makes every cost bigger. Early leash training is essential, and the lifespan is short.
