The detail
A German drover and guardian descended from Roman cattle dogs, the Rottweiler is powerful, confident and protective of its family. Calm and loving with its own people, it needs early socialization, consistent training and an owner who leads.
What to weigh
A Rottweiler is strong enough that training is not optional, and its guarding instinct needs shaping through early socialization. Some insurers and landlords restrict the breed. Lifespan is shorter than many breeds.
