The detail

Hampshire pigs were developed in Kentucky from English imports and are black with a white belt around the shoulders. They are lean, well-muscled and a common sire breed for market hogs and youth shows.

What to weigh

Some Hampshires carry the RN gene, which can reduce pork quality. Ask for test results on breeding stock.
