The detail
Bred in Germany to go to ground after badgers, the Dachshund is bold, clever and far braver than its size. Its long back and short legs make it charming and portable, but also prone to spinal disease that shapes how you live with it.
What to weigh
Intervertebral disc disease affects many Dachshunds, so ramps, weight control and no jumping from furniture matter. They bark a lot, dig and can be slow to house-train.
