The detail
Welsummers come from the village of Welsum in the Netherlands and lay dark terracotta eggs, often speckled. They are friendly, active foragers, and chicks can often be sexed at hatch by their head markings.
What to weigh
Welsummers lay fewer eggs than production breeds. Egg color fades through the laying season.
