The detail

Jersey Giants were developed in New Jersey in the late 1800s and are the largest chicken breed. They are calm, cold-hardy and good layers of brown eggs, but grow slowly and need extra space and feed.

What to weigh

Jersey Giants take six months or more to reach full size and need more feed and larger coops. Heavy birds can hurt their legs jumping from high roosts.
