The detail

Ameraucanas were developed in the US in the 1970s from South American blue-egg chickens, and lay pale blue eggs. Recognized by the APA, they have muffs, a beard and a pea comb, and are calm, hardy backyard birds.

What to weigh

Many chickens sold as Ameraucanas are Easter Eggers. True Ameraucanas lay fewer eggs than production breeds.
