The detail
Brahman were developed in Texas in the early 1900s from Indian zebu cattle, and they carry a hump, loose skin and big ears. They handle heat, humidity and insects better than any British breed and are the base of most Southern crossbreds.
- Temperament
- Intelligent, sensitive
- Best fit
- Gulf Coast, crossbreeding
- Docility
- 2 out of 5 (Reacts to rough handling)
- Upkeep
- 3 out of 5 (Strong pens needed)
- Hardiness
- 5 out of 5 (Heat, ticks, humidity)
What to weigh
Brahman are smart and sensitive, and poor handling makes them wild. They mature slowly, do poorly in hard cold, and need solid facilities.
