APRIL 2026 PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BELOW. IT WILL ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS. If you still have questions after, we are happy to respond through email. It is a long read and a long adoption process. Please understand we are ensuring that our babies go to great homes and we don't know you personally (yet). Understand that this is an adoption of a beautiful little soul that deserves the absolute best life. The average lifespan of a cat is 13 to 20 years. Some cats even live into their thirties, although this is far less common. So don't let that discourage you from adopting an adult cat! Rescue Mama has had 3 live into their 20's. One was 8 weeks old. SERGEANT STEVENS and his 3 brothers (SERGEANT JEFFREY " JACK " MUMFORD, SERGEANT BECKER and DETECTIVE JOHN BURROWS) were found by the side of a freeway. Our trapper friend could not find a rescue. They had to live in a kitty tent in someone's backyard. When she told us, we frantically got them here. SERGEANT STEVENS is with our rescue now and is ready to be adopted. Meet SERGEANT STEVENS, a sleek and handsome cat Domestic Shorthair Tabby mix from Torrance, California whose tiger-striped coat hints at his quiet…

In the rescue's own words, as they published it.

How adopting SERGEANT STEVENS works

Workin' Whiskers decides every adoption: its application, its fee, its home check and its timing. Everybarn only shows this animal on the rescue's behalf, takes no payment and passes no messages.
