HISTORY: RUFIO came to F&F as a stray found to be FIV+. However, as is typical with many FIV+ cats, this cat has no symptoms, is expected to be in good health and expected to live a normal lifespan. While conventional thinking is to only place an FIV+ cat in a home with no other cats or with another FIV+ cat, there are many “mixed households.” According to Cornell University, the primary mode of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) transmission is through repeated fights resulting in the exchange of blood, and it poses no threat to humans or other species. If you would like to consider RUFIO for adoption but need more information on FIV, educational materials can be requested by emailing [email protected]. TEMPERAMENT: Need an indoor mouser? RUFIO might be the perfect cat for you! Although he may not be a lap cat right away, he is sure to keep your home mouse-free and make for a helpful housemate. He is a big fluffy guy who enjoys watching you from a distance and just needs some patience and TLC! He may enjoy a home with a catio.
