Usually the shelter life takes a toll on our animals after a while. They start to act out, they start to become depressed and they sometimes just decide that they want people to leave them alone. Hawkeye, our nubby tail 4 year old orange tabby, is not like most. This sweet but shy boy has been with us for 2.5 years and he has become a completely different cat during his time here...in the best way possible! Hawkeye started his life in a feral colony and came to us with a few of his friends at around 2 years old. He wanted nothing to do with us for more time than we would like to admit. We gave him his space and allowed him to feel comfortable and loved even if it was from afar. After watching other kitties get attention (and push up treats) for 3 years, he started to let his defenses down. He began to open up to certain people and that was the start of his transformation. Hawkeye now allows most people pet him and booty scratches are his favorite. He will headbutt you if you are giving others attention, just in case you didn't see him. He sometimes gets scared and goes up on the shelves in his room and hisses as us. He doesn't try to hurt us and doesn't run- we have learned that…
